In Guatemala, there are many words that only Guatemalans know and understand, better known as “chapinismos”, and that make their speeches a spectacle for any foreigner. Here are some terms and their meanings that Guatemalans use in ordinary conversation:

  • “Arralado”: With fear
  • Assa nigua: Let someone brag.
  • “Atalaya”: Check or wait.
  • “Good”: Substitution of the word “yes” by “good”.
  • “Burra”:: Truck.
  • “Cachito”: A little bit.
  • “Calentar la cabeza”: Persuading
  • “Canche”: person with blond hair.
