In Guatemala, there are many words that only Guatemalans know and understand, better known as “chapinismos”, and that make their speeches a spectacle for any foreigner. Here are some terms and their meanings that Guatemalans use in ordinary conversation:

- “Atalaya”: Check or wait.
- “Good”: Substitution of the word “yes” by “good”.
- “Burra”:: Truck.
- “Cachito”: A little bit.
